bilingual

You call me beautiful in Italian,
I reply in French,

“Said the blind,”

because you like that phrase
and I mirror your syntax
in more than one language.

I measure time in laundry and vodka.

“I’ll do the linens today, and drink 1/3 of the vodka,
and then it will be time, ” I say to cat 1 and cat 2.

Instead I drink all of the vodka.
(p.s. The cats are disgusted.)

I’m avoiding evading you while you elude me,
I’m waiting while the cats watch,
I’m watching while the cats wait for your response.

I answer in Spanish...I’m not sure what I said.

To talk in tongues is too too much and terribly unkind
and some men cannot see through the disguise.
Someone, once asked me,(honestly!) “How’dya make a Venetian Blind?”
And I replied, “Just poke him in the eyes!”
